When troubleshooting View Environment, particularly PCOIP issues it is important to know which log are you looking at and what exactly you should be looking. This is part of the PCOIP Troubleshooting Series You will find information about the logs which you find in your View environment and what information does it carry
vminst.log – Which is common for all the components
wsnm_starts – Service information related to wsnm.exe.
Debug-* – All transactions about the provisioning, user sessions and ADAM replications.
\PCOIP Secure Gateway
SecurityGateway_* – All transaction related to connectivity when PCOIP Secure Gateway is enabled
\Blast Secure Gateway
absg-* – All transaction related to connectivity when Blast Secure Gateway is enabled
TPautoconnect.log, thinprint.log, thinprintclient.log and tpviewture.log – helps you to troubleshoot issues with ThinPrint.
Enabling ThinPrint logging in VMware View Manager – Implement this procedure only when you have ThinPrint issues.
VMWVvp.txt- Persona Logging
Persona Management logging is managed through the View Persona Management ADM Template. By default, logging is disabled.
To enable Persona Management logging, see View Persona Management Group Policy Settings in the VMware View Administration Guide.
pcoip_server*.txt – All transactions related to encoding, virtual channels, image management, bandwidth, etc…
pcoip_agent*.txt – All client-side transactions, such as connectivity, handshake etc..
vmware-viewcomposer-ga-new.log – Information about QuickPrep and Sysprep script execution.
This log is located in %system_drive%\Windows\Temp\
Netlink-*-*.txt– Information about the serial port redirection and scanner redirection channels.
Debug-*.txt– Transactions related to horizon_client_service framework, USB-Redirection (vmware-view-usbd.exe)
vmware-mks-XXXXXX.log– Remote MKS (mouse-keyboard-screen) logs
You can use group policy settings to make some configuration changes:
- You may use vdmadmin -A utility to configure logging levels on Agent and Client.
- In PCOIP.adm template Configure PCoIP event log verbosity should be modified to increase the logging.
- vdm_common.adm can be modified to configure log location including USB Redirection, WSNM Service
